I now run Linux here, so I haven't played with Cygwin in several years. Some Windows users simply install Cygwin in order to get access to Linux commands, including RSync within their Windows environment. I've been running this way for a couple of. This will let you backup your nas to Crashplan through your iMac. You can however install 3rd party versions of it. You can run Crashplan on your iMac and mount the Synology as a network drive. It will be a semi-remote copy for a backup in case the building burns down. While the Backup and Replication service can use a network drive or an Internet service like S3 or Azure, I prefer a good old hard drive. Microsoft does not provide an RSync client at all. Dropbox you need to Sync folders and not use it as a backup target. To create a disk backup on Synology, configure the Backup and Replication service to use a drive connected by USB. QNAP's Backup Station uses RSync, but you can also call it directly if you want to write your own scripts. By backing up your NAS device to an off-site location that can be accessed via the cloud, youll. Backing up your Synology NAS device is crucial if you want to protect your data, but choosing the right cloud backup service to do so can be hard. It is already part of both Linux and OS X, which is somewhat ironic, because RSync does it's work via Windows networking protocols. Off-site cloud backup is the most recommended backup solution. Jules RSync is probably the easiest to use. Is anybody aware of a solution which runs on Mac and PC and will backup to NAS, ideally QNAP or Synology? I've spent the best part of 2 days trawling around the internet looking for the correct product, but so far have not come up with anything that ticks the relatively few boxes I have.Īny suggestions very gratefully received. I thought Qsync might be a possibility, but I've had a few dodgy experiences using sync software to backup: Synology's sync application deletes files on the NAS if they're deleted locally for example, which defeats the object. True Image 2015 supports Mac but the Mac software is basic volume imaging only, Retrospect seems to be dieing a death, QNAP's Netbak Replicator is PC only, and I'm not a big fan of Time Machine. To be honest, I'm struggling to find a single solution that does the job. I'm trying to setup my QNAP NAS as a private cloud, and backup our 3 Windows system and 1 Mac to it, ideally using software which backs up continuously.
